The tropical storm lee which was created on Tuesday at of the middle Atlantic is reinforced.
Lee is forecast to become a hurricane this Thursday as it moves towards the Lesser Antilles and is forecast to become a major cyclone this weekend.
according to US National Hurricane Center (NHC), The storm is located about 1,265 miles (2,040 km) east-southeast of the northern Leeward Islands (Antigua and Barbuda, Monserrat, Virgin Islands, among others) and is moving west-northwest at 14 mph (22 km/h), trajectory which is expected to continue for the next few days.
Lee packs maximum sustained winds of 65 miles per hour (100 km/h), and NHC forecasters say it will have rapid and steady strengthening, to the point of becoming a hurricane Wednesday afternoon and reaching a major hurricane on Friday , that is, categories three or more on the Saffir-Simpson scale, out of a maximum of five.
The development of the cyclone warned Leeward Islands, although the NHC points out that it is still too early to know with certainty what impact it will have on this group of Caribbean islands.
The formation of Lee in the current Atlantic hurricane season, which will end on November 1, comes after powerful Hurricane Idalia made landfall in northwest Florida last Wednesday and continued over the southeastern United States.
NHC meteorologists today are also watching for a tropical wave off the coast of West Africa that could develop into a tropical depression by the middle of this week.
The wave is moving in a west-northwest direction and could pass over the African islands of Cape Verde between Wednesday and Thursday.
In an update published on August 10, the US National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) predicted an “above normal” Atlantic hurricane season.
Between 14 and 21 tropical storms are expected to form, of which between 6 and 11 would be hurricanes.
