According to this data, they were working with seven other colleagues during the severe storm in the southeastern Chinese city of Fuzhou on Tuesday when the fire truck plunged into a river. Six of them were rescued, one firefighter is still missing.

‘Haikui’, the eleventh typhoon of the year, has been raging since Tuesday morning mainly in the southern Chinese provinces of Fujian and Guangdong. It caused heavy rain there, which caused flooding, state media reported. In some areas, more than 300 millimeters of precipitation fell within 24 hours.

Especially in the summer months, parts of China are repeatedly hit by heavy rainfall, which usually claims many lives and causes major economic damage.

In August alone, 168 people died in natural disasters, Beijing’s Ministry of Disaster Management announced Wednesday. A large part of them will probably fall victim to the floods around Beijing. The region around the Chinese capital was hit by record rainfall and severe flooding in early August.
