Typhoon “Haikui” reaches China – fire truck crashes into river After spectacular helicopter escape – man in court in Paris

With strong gusts of wind and torrential rain, typhoon ‘Haikui’ has endangered the lives of several people in southern China. As reported by China’s state television on Tuesday, a fire truck carrying eight people crashed into a river near the city of Fuzhou. Three of them were rescued, five are still missing. Rescue operations are underway, the ministry said.

According to state media, “Haikui” reached mainland China on Tuesday morning (local time). According to state news agency Xinhua, the southern Chinese provinces of Fujian and Guangdong have been affected, citing local authorities. In some places, schools and kindergartens remained closed on Tuesday as a precaution. According to Xinhua, meteorologists in Guangdong expected this year’s 11th typhoon to move further west and become weaker and weaker.

Before reaching the People’s Republic, Haikui passed through Taiwan on Monday. According to the national emergency center, more than 100 people were injured there and the power went out in about 260,000 households. Thousands of people had to be brought to safety. (sda/dpa)
