Tropical Storm Jova is emerging in the Mexican Pacific

The tropical storm Jova formed this Tuesday in the Mexican Pacific, although for now it does not pose a danger to the country, he reported National Meteorological Service (SMN).

The phenomenon originated 715 kilometers south-southeast of Punta San Telmo, in Michoacán, and 1165 kilometers south-southeast of Cabo San Lucas, Baja California Suraccording to the authority of the National Water Commission (Conagua).

He cyclone It represents maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour, gusts of 85 kilometers per hour and a westward drift of 19 kilometers per hour.

“Jova will move to the west-northwest, without affecting the Mexican territory,” predicts SMN.

Jova is the tenth named cyclone this season in the Pacific, where Adrian, Beatriz, Calvin, Dora, Eugene, Fernanda, Greg, Hilary and Irwin also formed.

Of these, Hilary caused the most damage, leaving four dead in the states of Baja California, Baja California Sur and Sinaloa in August.

In May, the government of Mexico predicted the formation of up to 38 named cyclones in the 2023 season, of which 5 will affect the country.

Of that number, between 16 and 22 systems could appear in the Pacific Ocean, and between 10 and 16 in the Atlantic.
