Heavy rain floods hotels: state of emergency on Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast

After heavy rains, hotels and houses on the southern part of Bulgaria’s Black Sea coast have been flooded. Authorities have declared a state of emergency in the Tsarevo area after the Veleka River burst its banks, Bulgarian media reported on Tuesday.

Streets were flooded as a result, cars were in the water. Bridges were swept away by the floods. Several seaside resorts were cut off from the outside world because country roads were impassable due to the water.

Several campsites in the region were also flooded, and strong winds pushed cars and caravans into the sea, according to media reports. Holidaymakers were brought to safety. The power supply failed in the seaside resort of Sinemorets. Residents of Kosti village were evacuated. In the small town of Tsarevo, authorities called on people to go to higher places. (SDA)
