After the uprising against the Kremlin, Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin was sitting on a ticking time bomb. That’s what experts predicted. Because the past shows that anyone who messes with Russian President Vladimir Putin disappears from the scene.
About two months later, Prigozhin died in a plane crash with the entire leadership of the Wagner troop. This was confirmed by the Russian authorities. But Prigozhin probably had even more supporters, including within the Russian army.
Former Russian deputy commander-in-chief in Ukraine, Sergei Surovikin, is said to have known about the Wagner mercenary uprising. At least that’s what the New York Times reports, citing American security circles. Explosive: after the Wagner mutiny, he too disappeared from the scene – until now.
A photo goes viral: it shows a man with a denim shirt and a black cap. His eyes are hidden behind dark sunglasses. The recording would show the missing Russian general in Ukraine. Next to him is a redhead who resembles the general’s wife.
General Sergey Surovikin is free. Alive, healthy, at home with his family in Moscow. The photo was taken today,” noted Russian media personality Ksenia Sobchak wrote on Telegram, according to the BBC. Until now, the authenticity of the photo could not be verified. According to the report, Russian journalist Alexei Venediktov writes separately on Telegram: “General Surovikin is at home with his family. He is on leave and available for defense.”

General Surovikin was last seen publicly during the mutiny in a video calling on Wagner forces to end their action. However, according to media reports, Surovikin was said to have had close ties to Wagner boss Prigozhin.
He is said to be under investigation for possible complicity in the mutiny. The rumor mill was that he had been arrested and questioned. However, there was no official confirmation of his whereabouts.
In October 2022, Soerovikin was appointed commander-in-chief of Russian units in Ukraine. A few months later he had to leave the post again. His brazen actions during the Russian operations in Syria have earned him the nickname “General Armageddon”. Human rights organizations accuse him of numerous war crimes.
