At the beginning of February, the region and parts of northern Syria had already been hit by two strong earthquakes. In Turkey alone, more than 50,000 people lost their lives and tens of thousands of buildings were destroyed.
Numerous damaged houses have not yet been demolished. Orhan Tatar, head of the risk mitigation department at Afad disaster relief agency, called on people to stay away from damaged buildings.
