French PresidentEmmanuel Macronhe confirmed this Monday that he learned several lessons from the riots that shook the country less than a month ago, the main ones being that order and more authority towards young people is needed, which suits families above all.
“My first lesson it’s order, order and order. The second is that our country needs the return of authority at all levels, and above all in families,” Macron said in a televised interview which, in principle, should serve as a balance sheet for his government’s 100 days of work, marked by the adoption of the pension reform in mid-April.
The president, interviewed by two major public television channels from New Caledonia, a French territory where he began a week-long tour of Oceania, considered the violence of the week-long riots, after l.until he was shot to death on June 27 a minor under the age of 17 who tried to escape police control. He emphasized that since then “what has prevailed is the return to order” thanks to the “unprecedented deployment” of 45,000 policemen, who allowed the riots to end “in four days”, while the riots that took place in 2005 lasted three weeks.

Macron emphasized that this police action, with 4000 people were arrested, resulted in a “relentless judicial response”, with hundreds of arrestees sent to court and “very swift judicial decisions”. The president referred to the fact that among the perpetrators of the quarrel there were many young people, that the average age of those arrested was 16 years, that it is characteristic of these adolescents that they come from a “fragile family framework” and that, in his opinion, the answer must come from the hands of a higher authority.
That’s why he announced that upon his return from vacation, he will influence the issue of Fr “parental authority”, since “the problem with these young people cannot be solved by national education, much less by the police”. In practice, it is about “making some families responsible and helping others who are helpless”, while imposing authority from the school, from public functions and the forces of law and order.
Macron also acknowledged that there is a social problem due to the concentration of difficulties “in the same cities, in the same neighborhoods.” And what other angle of action must be with social networks, which served to organize some interference. For the president, “we must better protect young people from the screen” and force platforms to remove content that encourages violence more quickly.
