During a protest against the controversial judicial reform, a car crashed into a crowd of demonstrators. Three people were injured in a city north of Tel Aviv on Monday, police said. The officers arrested the driver, whose motive was initially unclear in the evening, after a house search.
The protesters had blocked a lane. A video on the internet showed the car driving at full speed and carelessly through the crowd on the street. In the past, angry drivers had hit protesters blocking roads in protest of controversial judicial reform.
Thousands demonstrated again across the country in the evening after Israel’s parliament approved a core element of the controversial judicial reform on Monday. 64 of the 120 delegates voted in favor of a bill limiting the Supreme Court’s ability to act. The opposition boycotted the vote. The law is part of a larger package. Critics see it as a threat to Israeli democracy. There have been repeated mass protests against the plans of the right-wing religious government. (SDA)
