Wagner boss Yevgeny Prigozhin speaks out in a video from Belarus.

Less than a month after his brief uprising against Moscow’s military leadership, Russian mercenary chief Yevgeny Prigozhin (62) spoke out personally for the first time with a declaration of war. Accordingly, he addressed his fighters in neighboring Belarus in the village of Molkino and announced that he would continue to be deployed in Africa, for example.

In a video distributed on Telegram via Wagner, Prigozhin could be seen in the dark and heard Wagner commander Dmitri Utkin (53). “I am happy to greet you all,” Prigozhin said, according to reports, to a Wagner unit.

The shady businessman expressed his gratitude that Belarus welcomed the troops “not only as heroes, but also as brothers” after the near-putsch on June 24. The Ministry of Defense in Minsk had also confirmed in recent days the arrival of the Wagner fighters, who will now train the Belarusian armed forces. “We will stay in Belarus for a while,” said Prigozhin. “I am sure that by then we will make the Belarusian army the second largest army in the world,” he said. He himself considers Wagner to be the best, ie the first army in the world.

Not just Africa as an operational area

Again Prigozhin praised his mercenaries for their fight in the Russian offensive war against Ukraine. “What is happening at the front now is a disgrace,” he scolded. Wagner can be happy that he no longer has to participate.

At the same time, he said his private army would continue to improve and not only be deployed in Africa. In another previously circulated language file, Prigozhin admitted for the first time that he had sold some of his assets in Africa to “pay off obligations”. He gave no details. But he stressed that Wagner would fight where it was necessary. A return to the war zone in Ukraine is also possible if the combatants are convinced that there is nothing to be ashamed of there. Loud applause was heard on the video.

Wagner commander Utkin introduced himself in the video as the namesake of the “world famous” group. He is considered a great fan of the music of the German composer Richard Wagner, which is why the army is called that. “I am this real Wagner,” he said.
