And not for the first time: ex-police chief caught behind the wheel with three per thousand intus

Ulrich B., a former police chief from Saxony, got behind the wheel at almost three per thousand.

Ulrich B.* (62) could have had a steep career with the Saxon police. He was chairman of the riot police and could even have been promoted to head of the Dresden police. However, the alcohol became B.’s downfall.

In 2016, with a blood alcohol level of 1.86, he had a drunken accident on the A9 in Saxony-Anhalt – he was subsequently demoted to a civil servant at the Ministry of the Interior.

However, the official seems to have learned nothing from this. As the “Bild” reports, B. was caught drunk behind the wheel again a few days ago – at a whopping 2.98 per thousand intus!

It took several cars to slow down Mercedes

For example, on July 4, around 7:45 p.m., he drove his Mercedes on the A4 from Dresden to Leipzig – and was caught by the police. “The officials identified the car, which attracted attention due to an unsafe driving style and hit a guardrail,” said police spokesman Marko Laske when asked by the newspaper.

Stopping the sports car turned out to be more difficult than expected: due to the automatic function, the car kept getting hit. As “Bild” knows, it took two more vehicles to slow down the Mercedes of the ex-police chief.

When the agents were finally able to arrest B., they finally established that his blood alcohol level was almost three promille. The police officers did not hesitate then, ordered a blood test from the ex-police chief and obtained his car keys.

The public prosecutor’s office in Dresden has now launched an investigation into driving under the influence, endangering road traffic and hit and run.

Now the ministry is under fire

Interior Ministry chief Robert Fink declined to comment on his employee’s drunken accident “for legal reasons”. Internally, however, the criticism of the ministry is getting louder: “Anyone who has such a high blood alcohol level at 7.45 p.m. should be noticed at work,” says an employee.

Fink does not want to give any information whether B. worked on that day or not. Nevertheless, the authority has apparently already drawn the first conclusions: As “Bild” has learned from ministry circles, a patrol car was sent to B.’s house on Monday. (dzc)
