After the body of a 62-year-old German was found in the Thai resort of Pattaya, a German suspect has also been arrested, according to local media. The detectives found the man wanted on the basis of an arrest warrant in the capital Bangkok on Tuesday evening, the news portals “The Pattaya News”, “The Thaiger” and “Khaosod” unanimously report. He and two other suspects are charged with involvement in the businessman’s murder and concealment of his body.
The body of the 62-year-old, who had been missing since early July, was found Monday at an estate in Nong Prue in Pattaya (Chonburi province) – dismembered in a freezer. The Thai police had previously questioned the arrested German about the man’s disappearance and released him again.
According to the media, the detectives eventually targeted three main suspects using surveillance camera recordings. In addition to the Germans, these included a woman from Germany, who was accompanied by a lawyer at a police station in Pattaya on Tuesday, and, according to the media, a 27-year-old man of Pakistani descent who helped transport the body.
According to investigators, the death of the businessman would be related to extortion. The assassination had been planned for over a month and well prepared by the gang, Khaosod quoted the deputy chief of the national police, Surachate Hakparn, as saying. A total of three million baht (78,230 euros) was transferred from the account of the 62-year-old to ten target accounts. This allows authorities to assume that there are other possible participants in the plot.
