The latest clues show little hope of solving the Madeleine McCann case

When the search for Madeleine McCann resumed at the end of May, the German prosecutor who requested the operation, Hans Christian Wolters, he was convinced that he had found the culprit. According to him, it was only necessary to find evidence that incriminates him, and for that he reactivated the search devices in the Arade reservoir (Algarve) almost 11 years after the last searches.

However, Wolters himself was cautious about the works’ expectations. “Don’t wait too long,” he even said. Now German police, working in southern Portugal in collaboration with Portuguese and English officers, have told the local press that “no convincing evidence” after analyzing the extracted material, according to British and English newspapers. Although they do not solve the investigation reopened in May, there is less and less hope that irrefutable evidence will be found.

German authorities requested the search after linking the Arada reservoir to Christian Brueckner, a man convicted of various sex crimes in Germany, who he referred to the place as “my little piece of heaven”. In addition, Brueckner spent considerable time in southern Portugal and was proven to have been in the area when the McCann family vacationed there. Brueckner was first linked to the case in 2020, and was officially listed as a suspect last year.
