Amazon does not want to be under stricter surveillance in the EU This robbery is a complete failure

Amazon opposes stricter supervision in the EU, under which the world’s largest online retailer will be subject to new digital laws. The American group appealed to the EU Court in Luxembourg against the status of a particularly large online platform under the Digital Services Act (DSA).

Amazon argued on Tuesday that as a consumer goods retailer, it is not the type of online platform for which the DSA eligibility rules were created. Because their goal is to minimize the risks of services that distribute information and are funded by advertisements.

Also, Amazon is not the largest retailer in any of the individual EU countries. If the group, as a large platform, comes under tighter scrutiny and its local retail competitors don’t, it would be at a disadvantage, the company said. At the same time, Amazon stressed that much has been done for years to protect customers from illegal goods such as counterfeit products.

The EU Commission also considers Google’s shopping marketplace and Chinese online retailer Alibaba to be particularly large online platforms. German fashion retailer Zalando went to court against the classification at the end of June. He argued that the European Commission had ignored his hybrid business model: because Zalando also sells its own items. However, the DSA does not apply to retail, so the number of customers should not have been counted in this category.

Among other things, the DSA must ensure that platforms remove illegal content from their sites faster than before. Particularly strict requirements apply to very large platforms and search engines with more than 45 million active users per month. For example, once a year they must submit a risk assessment for harmful content and propose countermeasures. They also have to share data with authorities and researchers. (sda/awp/dpa)
