Switzerland is only 23rd in the expat ranking Record heat in Vaduz: everything about the hottest day of the year here in the ticker

About three-quarters of foreign workers in Switzerland are satisfied with their lives here. This is the conclusion of a current survey by the expat platform Internationals.

Overall, Switzerland ranks 23rd out of 53 countries in the so-called expat ranking. However, compared to last year’s ranking, three places have been lost. However, the changes in the rankings are generally large and two more countries were rated than last year.

Expats – ie people who live and work abroad – appreciate the high quality of life in Germany and are satisfied with their financial situation despite the high costs. In the “Quality of Life” subcategory, Switzerland took 8th place. It is in the top ten for the tenth time in a row. It performs particularly well in the security and environment & climate subcategories: almost all surveyed immigrants appreciate Switzerland’s nature and environment, air quality and urban environment. They also believe that politicians take environmental protection seriously.

But expats also appreciate Switzerland when it comes to work, ranking 12th. They give the country good marks, especially in the salary and tenure subcategory.

As in previous years, Switzerland performs very poorly in the settling abroad category, ranking 47th. One in five expats surveyed find the Swiss population generally unfriendly, more than half find it difficult to make friends with the local population and almost one in four does. not feeling welcome in Switzerland.

In comparison, a third of expatriates around the world said they had trouble making local friends, and only 15 percent of those surveyed felt unwelcome in their adopted country.

Mexico most popular with immigrants

According to the results of the survey, Mexico, Spain and Panama are the top destinations for expats. They all score good to very good on personal finances and well above the global average on settling.

In contrast, Kuwait, Norway and Turkey scored worst in the rating. The immigrants find it difficult to settle there, according to the ranking.

More than 12,000 expats in 53 countries participated in the Expats Insider survey. A sample of at least 50 participants is required for a country to be included in the general classification. (aeg/sda/awp)
