Supannee K.* (57) experiences the horror of every air traveler: her leg is trapped on the end of a treadmill at Don Mueang Airport in Bangkok. The images are shocking: your leg has disappeared into the institution above the knee – and the rescuers have to amputate it.
Thai media reported afterwards that the medical staff had saved the leg – this has now been proven wrong. The 57-year-old now has to learn to walk with crutches. Her son Krit K.* posted a video on Facebook showing her walking a few steps down a hospital corridor with a walker.
He reports: “My mother can now cover more than 15 meters. But you have to exercise every day.” Supanee K. was transferred from intensive care to a regular room. She is currently only allowed to receive visits from her family.
The family canceled all appointments, put all projects on hold to be there for their mother. Krit K. writes: “She is as beautiful as ever.” A prosthetic leg is now being considered.
It is still unclear how the accident at the airport could have happened. The images from the surveillance cameras have been handed over to the police, the airport confirms. And Krit K. says it was an accident – and not because of his mother’s carelessness. She was not holding her cell phone when it happened.
The airport was badly hit after the accident. “We are deeply saddened by the incident and stand ready to take full responsibility and provide medical expenses and compensation,” the airport said in a statement. (new)
