Italians and tourists should prepare for strikes on railways and air traffic in the Mediterranean country this week. The staff of the state railway company Trenitalia and employees of the private competitor Italo want to stop work from Thursday morning 03:00 to Friday morning 02:00. Several unions announced this last weekend. The railways expect significant cuts in the process and some train cancellations, especially in long-distance traffic. Travelers are urged to inquire about connections.
A strike has been announced for Saturday at the airports, when ground staff – for example at check-in – want to stop working from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Malta Air pilots, who operate Ryanair flights in Italy, also want to go on strike on Saturday from 12 noon to 4 p.m. Pilots and flight attendants of the low-cost airline Vueling also went on strike on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. (sda/dpa)
