After several years of the pandemic, no one wants to stay home: On Thursday, 250,381 aircraft took off worldwide within 24 hours – 134,386 of which were commercial flights. More than ever! This is shown in a table from Flightradar24. Sometimes there were more than 20,000 planes in the air at once! The rest are mainly cargo flights.
So far, July 25, 2019 has been the day on which the most flights were registered. In total, more than 230,000 flights were counted. In 2020, on the other hand, almost nothing flew. The reason for this was the lockdowns and corona rules.
The July 6 record could be broken again this summer. According to statistics, most people go on vacation in late July and August.
On average, 102,465 aircraft fly per day. Military flights are not tracked by Flightradar24.
Many people have avoided the plane in recent years – also because it has a major impact on the climate. This year, however, fewer people are without air transport, the statistics show. (jwg)
