During mapping work in Waldshut (D), workers found about 10,000 euros in cash. It is unclear who they belong to.

A mysterious find of money in Germany, near the border, is keeping authorities busy. In mid-March, workers found banknotes during mapping work at the Rheinschloss in Waldshut (D). The workers then dutifully passed the money on to the state police. They in turn handed over the find to the city.

Attempts have since been made to locate the owner – without success. It is still unclear who owns the approximately 10,000 euros, reports the “Aargauer Zeitung”.

The money will go to the finders in two months

If the owner wants to get the money back, there’s not much time left. Because: according to German law, there is only six months entitlement to the money. If no one registers in mid-September, the proud amount will go to the finders. They should be happy.

But we are not there yet. The Deutsche Bundesbank even intervened to find the owner. According to the Waldshut-Tiengen city council, they have investigated and confirmed that the total value was eight to ten thousand euros.

The city also informed the newspaper that several people had already reported the find. However, this has not led to an owner. Jaquelin Scheuch, who is responsible for press and public relations at the city, says: “We do not want to go into details because of the interests of the plaintiffs who deserve protection.” (Mrs)
