He killed two young people and injured several people: train knife stabbing from Brokstedt (D) denies act during trial

In January, a knife attack shook Germany. In January of this year, Palestinian Ibrahim A. (34) attacked passengers on a regional train in northern Germany with a knife. He killed a young couple († 17 and † 19) in the attack and injured seven other people.

The trial of the deadly knife attack began Friday amid great public interest.

Unbelievable: the suspect admitted to having been on the train, but denied the act itself. “The allegations are not true – they are not true,” said 34-year-old Ibrahim A. in response to questions from the presiding judge of the Itzehoe court, in statements that at times seemed confused. “That’s not true at all.”

A. stabbed “to take it off”.

According to the indictment, A. stabbed two young people red-handed about five and a half months ago and injured four others, some of whom were life-threatening. The prosecutor charges him with two murders and four counts of attempted murder.

It arises from malice and base motives. A. did this “to vent his frustration and anger”, her representative said when reading the indictment.

According to public prosecutor Janina Seyfert, Ibrahim A. committed the crime out of frustration that he had not made an appointment at the immigration service in Kiel. He then stole an eight-inch knife from a supermarket in the capital – with the intention of attacking people.

Young woman died of 26 knife wounds

On the regional train to Hamburg, he first stabbed a 17-year-old teenager. She died after 26 stab wounds, which included cutting through the femoral artery. The suspect allegedly stabbed the 19-year-old friend of the young woman twelve times. Among other things, he received a fatal stab to the heart.

In the further course of the crime, Ibrahim A. allegedly attacked and seriously injured four other passengers in different carriages of the train with a large number of stab and cut wounds. Finally, a man managed to beat the perpetrator with a briefcase and a laptop bag in such a way that he lost the knife and gave up in front of witnesses.

A. is considered guilty

According to the prosecutor’s office and the defense, the question of the criminal responsibility of the suspect will probably play a major role in the procedure, which will initially last until December.

According to the current judgment, the Public Prosecution Service considers A. guilty. The defense, on the other hand, assumes a mental illness, which could also have had a decisive influence at the time of the crime. During the investigation, A. had also admitted the crime and expressed regret. (AFP/SDA/dzc)
