He served 13 years in prison for a murder he didn’t commit. Now Manfred G. from Germany has been acquitted.

For 13 years, a caretaker from Germany was innocently imprisoned. Now he has been acquitted. This is the end of the spectacular new trial in Munich for the so-called bathtub case.

The court Munich I acquitted suspect Manfred G. (62) on Friday after the case of a woman found dead in her bathtub in 2008 was reopened. New expert opinions raised serious doubts about his guilt. However, G. had previously been detained for more than 13 years.

The court has now overturned the 2012 verdict in which G. was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder. For the years in prison, the former caretaker of the housing complex where the deceased woman lived is now being compensated from the state treasury. Both his defense and the prosecution had previously demanded an acquittal. (AFP)
