A court in London on Thursday rejected the Cabinet Office’s complaint against Commission Chief Heather Hallett’s order.

The former prime minister left his documents with the Cabinet Office in May. However, the authority refused to pass it on. She argued that the committee lacked the power to force the release of documents and messages whose content was unrelated to the government’s handling of Covid. The “Covid-19 Inquiry” Commission, on the other hand, argued that “this and future inquiries” would become invalid if the government itself decided what content is relevant.

The study is currently investigating whether Britain was sufficiently prepared for the corona pandemic. About 227,000 people died from Covid-19 in the UK, according to death certificates. The commission, headed by former Judge Hallett, can hear witnesses under oath and request documents, but cannot pass judgment.
