Why Donald Trump does not want to debate After more than 40 hours: cave climber rescued in Italy

The ex-president has so far refused to appear in front of TV cameras along with his rivals in the primaries.

Since the legendary duel between John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon, pre-election TV debates have become as much a part of American politics as ice cream in apple pie. On the 23rd Fox News wants to start the round of Republican candidates in the primary on August 2. However, one person will likely be missing: Donald Trump.

This is a major blow to Murdoch broadcaster. A televised debate of Grand Old Party (GOP) candidates without Trump is like a Rolling Stones performance without Mick Jagger. But the ex-president has already announced that he will not be on stage; and for once, much to Fox News’ chagrin, he has a good reason:

It wouldn’t be the first time Trump has skipped the candidate debate. Because Megyn Kelly, then star anchor at Fox News, had enraged him in the first debate in 2016, he stayed away from the second. It wasn’t until Fox News bosses got a hold of him that he got involved again. This time too, he will do everything he can to bend Murdoch station to his will.

As much as Trump is shy when it comes to TV debates, he’s going wild again in his rallies. He has nothing to fear in these election events. Last weekend, 50,000 of his fans made a pilgrimage to Pickens, a town of 3,000 in the state of South Carolina, to listen again to 90 lengthy minutes of ex-President Joe Biden and Special Prosecutor Jack Smith discussing the FBI and the Deep State.

Trump regularly posts similar taunts on his social platform. His lawyers probably won’t be happy about this, as anything the ex-president says in public could be used against him in court. And legally, Trump’s situation already looks miserable, even hopeless.

According to the experts, Jack Smith’s charges against him are so convincing that the ex-president seems to have no chance in court. Even his former attorney general, William Barr, stated that if only half of the allegations were true, Trump would be “toast,” meaning he was done. In addition, the special counsel is likely to file a second riot charge on January 6, 2021.

Only moving into the White House can probably prevent Trump from spending the rest of his life in an orange prison suit. The ex-president therefore put everything on the political map, and that is why he was finally able to appear in the primaries, despite all denials.
