Mayor’s house attacked in riots in France – woman and child injured More than 20 shots fired in US city of Baltimore – reports of many injured

A mayor’s home in a Paris suburb was attacked while his family slept at home during riots in France. Rioters rammed and set fire to the house with a car on Sunday night, Vincent Jeanbrun, mayor of L’Haÿ-les-Roses, wrote on Twitter. His wife and one of his children were injured. According to the television channel BFMTV, the public prosecutor’s office has launched an investigation into attempted murder.

The mayor himself was still in the town hall that evening. The service building was barricaded with barbed wire and guarded by police due to attempted attacks. However, the private home where the mayor’s wife slept with their two young children was not secured. The perpetrators rammed the fence of his home with a car and then set fire to the car, the family car and several garbage cans. The woman and children fled through the garden as the attackers fired at them with fireworks, according to the channel Franceinfo TV.

France has been rocked by violent unrest since a 17-year-old was shot dead by a police officer on Tuesday. Every night several hundred people were arrested, there was looting, arson and violence between police officers and rioters. (sda/dpa)
