The mayor of the city L’Hay-les-Roses reported on his Twitter that his home was attacked with a burning car. His wife and two young children were in the house as the mayor managed the crisis of the protests at City Hall. When the family tried to escape the attack out the back door, they were hit by fireworks. The woman was hospitalized with minor injuries.
Riots broke out in Nice and 20 people have already been arrested. Mayor Christian Estrosi reported on his Twitter that “a gang of young people robbed a store in the city center”, but the police had already arrested them, and the mayor warned their parents: “You will pay for the damage and the theft.”
Minister of the Interior Gérald Darmanin announced earlier this evening that this Saturday mobilization of 45,000 policemen and the gendarmes to stop the riots. The police headquarters of Bouches-du-Rhône announced the deployment of the GIGN in Marseilles and will have two armored gendarmerie vehicles. Darmanin confirmed the deployment of five units of mobile forces in the city of Marseille “to fully restore public order”.
