CIA boss William Burns was in Ukraine in June.

According to a US official, the head of the US foreign intelligence service CIA, William Burns (67), recently traveled to Ukraine. There he met secret service officials and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy, 45, a US official told AFP news agency. During his trip, Burns said he would share intelligence information “to help Ukraine defend against Russian aggression”.

Ukrainian officials have announced plans to retake Russian-held territory and begin ceasefire negotiations by the end of the year, according to the Washington Post. Ukraine is currently launching a counter-offensive in the east and south of the country to recapture the areas occupied by Moscow.

Visit before Wagner Rebellion

The CIA chief’s visit took place in June, reported the newspaper, which reported for the first time on Burns’ trip to Ukraine. According to the US official, the visit came before the 24-hour uprising of the Russian mercenary group Wagner a week ago.

After the uprising, the United States stressed that it had played no role in the uprising. US media reported Friday that after the uprising, Burns called the head of Russia’s SVR foreign intelligence service, Sergey Naryshkin, 68, to assure him that the United States was not involved in the uprising.
