More than 70 long guns, including machine guns and submachine guns, were found in Upper Austria and Lower Austria, the director general of public security, Franz Ruf, said in Vienna on Thursday.

According to their own statements, the investigators also discovered about 100 pistols, 400 signal weapons, some ready to fire, more than 10,000 ammunition of various calibers and 1000 weapon parts that would have been suitable for the production of 500 pistols. . According to the authorities, the weapons had a total value of 1.5 million euros. Some 550 Nazi memorabilia such as medals, flags and writings and 600,000 euros in cash were also seized. According to the authorities, ten suspects have been arrested for, among other things, violations of the weapons law.

“The seizure of automatic weapons is an alarming indication of how dangerous this scene is,” said Justice Minister Alma Zadic (Greens). The suspects, who authorities say are silent about the allegations, acted extremely conspiratorially, the ministry said.

Overall, it can be seen that the scene is in a “professionalization spurt” and is trying more than ever to network internationally, said the head of the Directorate of State Security and Intelligence (DNS), Omar Haijawi-Pirchner. In 2022 there were 660 investigations, 100 house searches and 37 arrests in the far-right scene in Austria.

The investigation against the rockers began after investigators learned of the “Bandidos” group’s expansion plans to Austria in 2021. Those arrested included a “high-ranking leader” of a former neo-Nazi group. Given the difficult investigations, the head of the Federal Criminal Investigation Department, Andreas Holzer, once again criticized the fact that the supervision of courier services in Austria was not legally possible.
