Police in Austria have seized a large arsenal of weapons from rockers attributed to the far-right scene. The Ministry of the Interior informed on Thursday about the attack “against organized motorcycle crime and against the extreme right-wing environment”.

More than 70 long guns were found and secured in Upper Austria and Lower Austria, including several machine guns and submachine guns, the director general of public security, Franz Ruf, said in Vienna on Thursday.

According to their own statements, the investigators also discovered about 100 small arms, about 10,000 rounds of various calibers and 1,000 weapon parts that would have been suitable for the production of 500 weapons.

Some 550 items of Nazi memorabilia were also secured. Ten suspects have been arrested for, among other things, violating the weapons law.

The investigation began after the researchers learned of the expansion plans of the rocker group “Bandidos” to Austria. There are common ground with right-wing extremist structures, Ruf said. The action is also a blow to the “militarization of the far-right scene”.

According to the press release, the studies showed how strongly right-wing extremism was represented in “outlaw biker gangs” and that right-wing extremist willingness to use violence and affinity for weapons was extremely high in this milieu.

In Switzerland, similar incidents in the past have led to violent clashes between the Bandidos and the Hells Angels MC stationed there, it is said.

The evaluation of the data carriers obtained during the house searches is still ongoing and the investigations have not yet been completed.
