Canadian clouds of smoke reach Portugal – and make for extraordinary images After the Wagner Rebellion: this is how Russia’s African affairs are going

The wildfires that have been raging in Canada for weeks are now also darkening the sky in Portugal, some 5,000 kilometers away. A huge plume of smoke reached the Western European country on Tuesday after crossing the Atlantic Ocean, Portuguese media reported.

The phenomenon will be noticeable on Wednesday, especially in the south of the country and “is likely to disappear by Thursday morning,” meteorologist Diamantino Henriques of Portugal’s Institute of Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) told the “Público” newspaper. The cloud is also expected to reach other countries in Europe.

Numerous fires have been raging in Canada for weeks. The smoke had already reached the northeast coast of the US and, among other things, darkened the sky above New York. Due to the fires, the Canadian metropolis of Montreal was temporarily the city with the worst air quality in the world. (sda/dpa)
