The judge who was supposed to judge this Tuesday Waltine Nauta, personal assistant of former US President Donald Trump, on charges related to classified documents found at Mar-a-Lago, the former president’s South Florida residence, adjourned the hearing until July 6.
Nauta did not appear at the hearing before the federal courts in Miami because he missed his flight from New York due to bad weather.
the one who was Trump’s military aide during his presidency (2017-2021), and was then in his personal service, will be charged with 38 counts, one more than his former boss, who faces 37 for crimes such as illegally concealing classified documents related to defense of the United States and obstruction of justice, punishable by imprisonment and fines.
Nauta, 41, could not be arraigned with Trump on June 13 because he did not have a lawyer licensed to practice in Florida at the time, which is why his presentation had to be delayed until this Tuesday.
The reading of the indictment and the prosecution of Naura are planned for this Tuesday. It is assumed that he will plead not guilty as the boss.
Nauta, whose full name is Waltine Torre Nauta, He was born on Guan Island, an American possession in the Pacific, and entered the US Navy in 2001.
Prosecutors accuse Nauta of helping Trump move boxes of official documents inside Mar-a-Lago so FBI agents and the former president’s lawyers couldn’t find them.
In August 2022, FBI agents searched Mar-a-Lago on a warrant and found about a hundred classified documents among many other official papers.
The jury trial was originally scheduled to begin on August 14, but the prosecution has already requested that it be held on December 11 because they need more time to formulate a strategy.
According to the indictment, Nauta and other employees moved inside Mar-a-Lago several times and even sent photos of overturned boxes.
Allegedly, some boxes were loaded into Nauta’s car and taken to a truck, which then took them to National Archives (NARA).
The indictment alleges that Trump ordered Nauta “to move boxes of documents to hide them from Trump’s lawyer, the FBI and the grand jury.”
