The fun is over on Lake Garda in Italy: strict rules of conduct apply immediately, which prohibit ball games, running and music, among other things.

Idyllic beaches, phenomenal food and lots of “Amore”: Italy is one of the most popular travel destinations in the world. It is not for nothing that millions of people from all over the world travel to the Stiefel every year. The Swiss also like to enjoy themselves during their holidays in their southern neighbour. But now Italy says enough! From now on, tourists must adhere to strict rules of conduct, otherwise it will be expensive.

This will become reality, among other things, on Lake Garda in northern Italy, reports “20 minutes”. The list of prohibited activities is long. From ball games to shouting and singing, everything is covered. This means that playing football, running, throwing and laughing out loud should also be banned. There should be newly marked zones for this. Absolutely taboo: using musical instruments or loud boomboxes. Those who do not want to comply with the new rules risk a hefty fine of up to 600 euros.

New killjoy rules

A record storm is expected in Italy this summer. That is why the strict rules on the picturesque lake must ensure order: “The beaches of Lake Garda must be a place where everyone, residents and tourists, can enjoy the beauty of nature and experience moments of rest and relaxation,” says Filippo Paoli, local police commander.

«Being rude and getting into discussions is definitely not recommended»

A regular visitor to Lake Garda already noticed that the police cracked down on rule violations: “The people in uniform were polite and apparently gave a loud warning to a rowdy group. Being brutal and entering into discussions is certainly not recommended,” the tourist told the Austrian newspaper “Kronen”.

New rules of conduct have also been imposed on several Mediterranean beaches in Italy. On some beaches on the island of Sardinia, even bath towels are strictly prohibited.

How much order and peace these new rules of conduct will really bring remains to be seen. (lia)
