Without the help of the private Wagner army, Russian President Vladimir Putin (70) would have experienced even greater bankruptcy in Ukraine. The mercenary force led by Yevgeny Prigozhin (62) did a lot of groundwork for the Russians during the invasion.

Thus, the troops claim the capture of the cities of Bachmut and Soledar for themselves. She would also have been involved in the Butscha massacre.

The Wagner group had already withdrawn from the front a few weeks ago. After the uprising against Moscow was called off on Saturday, it must now be disbanded and as many members as possible brought into the Russian army.

Russian front weakened

How does this affect the war in Ukraine? ETH military expert Mauro Mantovani (58) expects the Ukrainians to have an advantage. Mantovani: “There should be a weakening of the Russian invaders on several levels: weakening of the Russian lines in the Donbas, the Russian air force and the morale of the regular troops.”

According to information from the British secret services, the Ukrainians have made “gradual but steady tactical progress” since the departure of the Wagner group. The units had regrouped in recent days and were conducting major offensive operations on the main axes in the east and south of the country.

They allegedly used experiences from the first two weeks of the counter-offensive to refine tactics for attacking the well-prepared Russian defenses. Ukraine itself reports several successes, including the recapture of territory west of the Russian-occupied center of Donetsk.

Kadyrov intervenes

Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov’s (46) troop is now likely to take the place of the Wagner group. According to the Institute for the Study of War, Kadyrov announced a few days ago that the Chechen armed forces had received a new command and assumed responsibility for the front line in the Donetsk region.

Kadyrov said his units should “conduct active combat operations” and “liberate some settlements”. To this end, he had moved the special units Achmat and Sever-Achmat in the direction of Marinka. Chechen troops would also be deployed in Zaporizhia and Kherson oblasts.

However, not much success is credited to the troops. Many experts see the end of private armies and mercenaries after heavy losses.
