Hamish Harding combined his work as chairman of the private jet company Action Aviation with his obsession with risky adventures. Before embarking on OceanGate’s fifth mission to explore the wreck of the Titanic — after paying $250,000 — he bought one of Jeff Bezos’ Blue Origin space shuttle tickets last year. He holds three Guinness World Records, including reaching the deepest point in the ocean in a single dive with a mini-submarine, in the Mariana Trench. On Sunday, he posted photos on social media of himself signing the flag before the start of the dive.
Grateful for the love shown. The Dawood family indicated that “like any tragedy, this one brought out the best and the worst in people.” “Some do whatever it takes to contribute and support; others use these moments for personal gain. How someone behaves in such circumstances reveals more about them than anything else.
The note added that “the family remains overwhelmed by the love and support they have received and is grateful to those who showed the best of humanity.”
Shahzada Dawood (48) boarded the Titan with her 19-year-old son Suleman. He comes from one of the richest families in Pakistan, but has lived in the UK for years and holds both British and Pakistani citizenship. He leaves behind a wife and a daughter.
