For the first time ever, the Alternative for Germany (AfD) may soon appoint a district administrator. On Sunday their candidate, Robert Stuhlmann, will face Jürgen Köpper of the CDU in the Sonneberg district in a second round. On the first ballot, the AfD representative was far ahead of his opponent with 35.7 percent with 46.7 percent of the vote.
The AfD is also on the rise nationally: according to the latest polls, 27 percent of Germans regard the AfD as a normal democratic party. In Thuringia, where Sonneberg is located, it has long been the strongest force.
Spiegel TV visited Sonneberg for a documentary, and this dialogue with a citizen took place:
Burgers: “If the NSDAP leads the elections again, then I’ll be back.”
Reporter: “Well, you can’t say that.”
Burger: “Yes.”
Reporter: “The NSDAP, they killed 6 million Jews.”
Citizen: “Yes”
AfD politician and right-wing populist Björn Höcke is also part of the documentary, the 51-year-old is annoyed by the German passports thrown back. You can watch the entire documentary here:
