North Korea has fired another missile after the latest series of missile tests, the South Korean military says. The unspecified ballistic missile was fired toward the Sea of Japan on Friday (local time), Yonhap Agency reported, citing South Korean General Staff. He initially gave no further details.
The North Korean military has been conducting missile tests at an unusually high frequency since late September. According to the government itself, this should also simulate the shelling of South Korean airports with tactical nuclear weapons.
North Korea justifies missile tests
Ruler Kim Jong Un (38) witnessed the launch of two long-range cruise missiles on Wednesday, state news agency KCNA reported Thursday. These departed from the western province of South Pyongan in the direction of the Yellow Sea and reached their target at 2,000 kilometers after a flight duration of 10,234 seconds.
According to KCNA, the government had previously justified its missile tests in response to recent naval maneuvers by the South Korean and US armed forces, in which the nuclear-powered aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan participated for the first time in four years.
Early this month, Pyongyang also launched a medium-range missile over the Japanese archipelago for the first time in five years. The last time North Korea launched a missile over Japan in 2017, the country conducted a nuclear weapons test a few days later. (SDA)
