An elderly Ecuadorian woman who was pronounced dead and who “resurrected” at a vigil a week ago was declared dead on Friday officially dead at a hospital in the coastal town of Babahoyo, according to news sources.
The woman, identified as Bella Montoya and 76 years old, was in Intensive Care Unit (ICU) from the hospital “Martín Icaza” in Babahoy, where she was transferred after her relatives rescued her from the coffin when they realized she was still breathing.
A source from the Ministry of Health told the Ecuavisa television network that the woman, whose condition is serious in the ICU, “has already undergone an autopsy.”
On June 9, an old woman who was admitted to the hospital due to a cardiovascular accident was declared dead and handed over to relatives who took her to a funeral home.
About five hours after she was first pronounced dead, family and friends attending the vigil noticed that the woman was still breathing.
She was transferred to the hospital again, and due to her serious condition, she was admitted to intensive care, in an unusual case that is being considered by a commission of experts organized by the Government.
According to Ecuavisa, the woman who was thought to be dead has already regained her status as a living person after submitting her death certificate.
The station said her only son, Gilber Barbera, was hoping to see her partner the life of Babahoyo Hospital, where he visited her daily.
“She’s breathing and slowly moving her eyes,” Barbera said that same Friday, hours before her mother’s death was announced.
The initial situation shocked the Ecuadorians, who are asking for sanctions to be imposed on the doctors who conducted it, because the mercury was exposed to burial.
The woman developed catalepsy, a disorder that makes a person appear to have no vital signs. lasting up to three days.
