Traffic chaos reigns in Krauchenwies in southern Germany. The reason for this is not one, but two road closures. The B311, the community’s proper thoroughfare, is currently closed for demolition. There is an official diversion. But many motorists prefer to take a different route.

You want to take a shortcut via Alte Menger Strasse. But until the end of June, only regular buses, police and rescue services are allowed through. Because: the street is narrow, two cars can hardly pass each other. About 800 drivers are not interested in this every day – they drive on the road anyway. Local residents are concerned.

Concerned residents are spat on

“There is no sidewalk here and some seniors and children live on the streets. We are just afraid that something will happen soon,” resident Richard Hartl told the Schwäbische Zeitung. In addition, regular buses and rescue workers cannot get through if drivers block the road. Once a truck had to reverse 200 meters to pass a bus. to leave.

To stop traffic, some residents have now blocked their courtyards from turning cars – and were attacked by the drivers, as Hartl says: “One of my neighbors was already spat on by a lorry driver and motorist when he attracted attention . has banned”. But there is also a rough tone among drivers: “Drivers get out and yell at each other who should go back now,” says Hartl.

In any case, there is improvement in sight. Police have been notified and plan to tighten controls in the coming days. They also want to warn motorists and impose fines. “We don’t necessarily want drivers to be penalized. We only hope for insight,” says Hartl. (Mrs)
