Amidst the horror and despair left by the new migration tragedy in the Mediterranean, there is room for an emotional reunion, even between tears. Mohammed, An 18-year-old Syrian who is among the survivors of a fishing boat that sank in the Ionian Sea off the coast of Greece met this Friday with his come on brother in the port of Kalamata. Separated by a metal fence erected by the police in the warehouse where the rescued have been gathering for two days, the young man began to cry as soon as he hugged his brother Fadi.
Fadi had arrived from Holland a little while ago in the hope that the youngest of his brothers would be among them 104 saved. “Thank God for your safety,” Fadi said, repeatedly kissing Mohamad’s head. Fadi said his brother had been in Libya for two years trying to cross to Europe.

Dozens of relatives of the migrants who were on the fishing boat remained in port waiting for news, holding photos of their loved ones on their cellphones.
The survivors swam for for two hours surrounded by children’s bodies, before he is saved. This is what one of the migrants told a Greek social worker, reports the British channel Sky News. He also tells the story of a young man in his 20s who, faced with the terrible conditions on the overcrowded ship before the shipwreck: “He thought about suicide, about throwing himself into the sea because I couldn’t take it anymore».
