Pope Francis has left hospital just over a week after his abdominal surgery. The 86-year-old was wheeled Friday morning from the Gemelli clinic in Rome, where he had undergone surgery nine days earlier for an imminent intestinal obstruction.
The head of the Roman Catholic Church appeared recovered, waved to the waiting faithful and spoke briefly to reporters outside the entrance to the clinic. “I’m still alive,” said the Argentinian with a smile. Then he got into his white compact car to drive back to the Vatican.
Francis has completed his third stay at the clinic in the northwest of Rome, which lasted several days. He underwent surgery on his intestines in the summer of 2021 and was last hospitalized this spring due to pneumonia. According to the doctors, the operation last Wednesday, including general anesthesia, was successful and without complications. (SDA)
