21-year-old tourist dies after attack on Neuschwanstein Castle After initial setbacks: Ukrainian offensive gains momentum – an overview

After a man assaulted two 21 and 22-year-old women at Neuschwanstein Castle in Upper Bavaria on Wednesday, one of the two women has died. A spokesperson for the Kempten public prosecutor’s office confirmed this to the German press agency on Thursday. Various media had previously reported.

As the spokesperson reported, the two women and the 30-year-old man had met shortly before the attack. All three had come as tourists to the world-famous castle near the Austrian border on Wednesday afternoon. The crime is said to have happened not far from the Marienbrücke. The historic bridge is a popular meeting point for tourists as there is a good view of the castle from there.

The trio is said to have walked together along a well-trodden path to a viewpoint. The man allegedly assaulted the 21-year-old. The 22-year-old would have come to the aid of her girlfriend, after which the man would have thrown the second woman down a steep slope.

Then it should have come to an attempted sex crime against the 21-year-old. “But that is not yet resilient,” said the spokesman. Then the younger woman was also pushed off the mountain by the man. Both women were injured. The 21-year-old was taken to hospital by helicopter and died there Thursday night.

The man would have initially fled, but was then caught. He has been in custody ever since. Neuschwanstein Castle in Schwangau is one of the most visited sights in Germany. (saw/sda/dpa)
