“Want-to-be dictator”: White House fires back at Fox News

“Would-be dictator”: That’s what Fox News called US President Joe Biden during the live broadcast.

The White House responded with caustic humor to an overlay from the right-wing news channel Fox News.

In response to the charges against Donald Trump, the broadcaster showed the fader “Would-be dictator speaks at the White House after he had his political rival arrested” on the screens on Tuesday evening.

“There are probably about 787 million things I can say about it,” Biden spokeswoman Karine Jean-Pierre told reporters Wednesday. But she didn’t want to elaborate on the subject.

Allusion to equation sum

The song was apparently an allusion to the amount Fox News has to pay to voting machine manufacturer Dominion over libel allegations. The right-wing broadcaster agreed to pay $787.5 million in April after false voter fraud allegations against Dominion in connection with the 2020 presidential election to avoid a last-minute defamation lawsuit . Dominion sued Fox News for $1.6 billion in damages.

Trump, who wants to run again in the 2024 presidential election, accuses the Biden administration of trying to neutralize him politically with the federal judiciary’s indictment. Fox News seemed to agree with this interpretation with the overlay. “That was wrong,” Biden spokeswoman Jean-Pierre said Wednesday.

The Fox News overlay generated numerous critical comments on online platforms. Twitter users called the phrase “ridiculous,” “incredible,” and proof that Fox News is a “Republican propaganda machine.” One user suggested that Biden sue the broadcaster. Fox News told AFP news agency on Wednesday that the abdominal bandage was “immediately removed and addressed”.

Trump lurk of course

Fox News has been reporting very positively on Trump for some time. The broadcaster, which belongs to the media empire of the controversial billionaire Rupert Murdoch, has partly distanced itself from the right-wing populist in recent years; However, given Trump’s widespread popularity with right-wing viewers, Fox News is taking a lurching course on the subject.

Also ridiculed was that Fox News host Brian Kilmeade on Tuesday night incorrectly referred to Trump as the “President of the United States” rather than a previous president. (AFP)
