“Nobody told me how lonely it is”: Brite has surgery to become a man and is shocked

Thoroughly distraught and tearful, James Barnes says in an Instagram video, “I now understand why the male suicide rate is so much higher – it’s fucking lonely.” Barnes was born female and had a gender reassignment eight years ago. Despite finally being in the right body, the Brit says it will be a challenge. And, “People are colder and it’s much harder to make friends.”

Barnes is married to a woman and is a trans influencer with over 17,000 followers. In his videos, he raises awareness of LGBTQIA+ community issues in society. This is the abbreviation for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transsexual/Transgender, Queer, Intersexual and Asexual.

He posted the video of him talking about his manhood in October, but it has only now gone viral. Also because it pours out his heart and explains what it feels like to live as a man. “Nobody ever told me how lonely it is to be a man,” Barnes says in tears. “I had close friendships with women I happened to meet in a club bathroom,” he describes the time before his gender reassignment.

Women cross the street when they see him

Women are just more open and profound than men. “And then you have the attunement and you’re just a dude for whom others cross the street not to be near you,” says the Briton. Women have every reason to react this way, because “there are terrible and dangerous men that we must stop”. But men would also suffer from toxic masculinity.

The trans man is lucky to have grown up in a society that regarded him as a woman. That’s the only way Barnes has matured emotionally. Because his “vulnerable side” had taken advantage of him altogether.

Meanwhile, the video reads, “I’ve had fantastic friendships with men since then and I don’t feel sad. Turns out being vulnerable helps.” And, “I’ve never regretted changing my gender.”
