Local authorities are stepping up enforcement of security measures in the American city Miami with regard to the possibility of occurrence protests the accusation former US president Donald Trump which has its first appearance in the classified documents case this Tuesday.
Miami’s mayor, Republican Francis Suárez, indicated that his security teams prepared for up to 50,000 protesters. “We hope that tomorrow will be calm. We encourage people to be peaceful by showing how they feel. And we will have the appropriate forces necessary to ensure that,” he indicated, according to the PBS television network.
Police chief Manuel Morales indicated that there will be no defined perimeter around the courthouse and that protesters will be able to move freely around the building. However, he added, the authorities will be ready to resolve the situation.
Suárez did not say what security measures were taken. He also indicated that drivers may encounter disruptions on some streets, but did not specify which specific streets could be affected as decisions will depend on the size of the crowd.
The former president is due to appear in federal court in Miami at around 3:00 p.m. (9:00 p.m. in mainland Spain), amid protests organized by both his supporters and detractors.
