“Then he’s done”: Ex-Trump attorney general shocked by document charges Earthquake shakes South Africa’s most populous province

In a TV interview, former Attorney General William Barr paints a bleak scenario for Donald Trump’s future. Trump responded with a verbal attack.

Former US Attorney General William Barr, once a close ally of former US President Donald Trump, is shocked by the scale of the documents scandal. It remains to be seen what Trump’s defense says and what turns out to be true. But, “If even half of it is true, then he’s done,” Barr told Fox News about the former U.S. president on Sunday. “It’s a very detailed indictment and very incriminating,” Barr said.

Especially the explosiveness and the number of documents is shocking. “I think the allegations under the Espionage Act that he deliberately withheld those documents are solid,” Barr said.

The Republican lawyer was appointed attorney general by Trump in 2019. He previously served in the George HW Bush administration as Attorney General. In December 2020, Barr resigned from his position in Trump’s cabinet. He has since largely broken with the ex-president.

His comments on Fox News contrast with Trump’s diatribe against federal prosecutors, who he says are pursuing him as part of a “witch hunt.” Barr said: “The aim of the government was to … protect and release these documents, and I think it was perfectly appropriate to do so. It was the right thing to do.”

Trump immediately responded to his former attorney general’s comments. In a post on his Truth Social platform, he accused Barr of making the comments out of irritation and claimed it was misinformation. He also called Barr a “lazy” and “weak” attorney general. “Turn off Fox News when that cowardly pig is on the air,” Trump said.

According to the indictment, published on Friday, he allegedly withheld confidential and top secret documents about the US nuclear program and about possible US weaknesses in an attack. The Republican is also said to have shown another person a document from the Defense Department describing a plan of attack against another country. Other material comes from secret services such as the CIA and NSA.

Trump is also accused of obstruction of justice. According to previous statements, he is due to appear in court in Florida on Tuesday. Trump plans to deliver a speech at his golf club in Bedminster, New York, around 8:15 p.m., according to his campaign officials.
