Wilson, a rescue dog who helped search for children in the Colombian jungle Colombian National Army
The Colombian army continues the search Wilson, a Belgian Malinois who followed in the footsteps of the four brothers disappeared in the jungle of Guaviare. The dog got lost in the thicket on June 8, in full gear, perhaps because it was frightened by one of the wild animals that live in the jungle. Enthusiasm that the children are alive with the only signs of health after spending 40 days on a basic diet and the harshness of the jungle is mixed with sympathy for Wilson.
Social networks turned to the dog, of which it is known that he had contacts with minors. He stayed with them, played with them, “weak” from lack of food, but determined to give them protection and company. ‘Wilson’ is now, in a country crying for joy after holding its torturous breath for so many days, the hero of Colombia.
“The search is not over. We still have a missing command. But no one is left behind. We never leave a partner,” said General Pedro Sánchez, head of the device that located the minors this weekend. The army has organized a new search operation and dozens of them are already on the ground.

The soldiers saw dog tracks. He has been contacted on two occasions in recent weeks, but with no luck as Wilson has returned to the jungle. “Only three days ago we saw a dog. This gives us great encouragement and hope. This animal is trained, but it has its own instinct. We hope he is awakened in the jungle,” the military command reported in Semana magazine.

Wilson was instrumental in locating the juvenile, which more than 200 soldiers and natives searched in the thick belt of the Amazon until they ended up in what many call the “miracle of the Colombian jungle”. The little ones are still in the hospital, but their health condition is satisfactory. Lesly, 13, is the second superhero in this story. She cared for her three brothers after coping with the May 1 death of their mother in a plane crash – who lived for four days after the incident until she advised them to find a way to survive. This Sunday, dad and grandparents were by the bed.
The dog repeatedly showed the way the children were going. He found some of the clues they left on their route. One of the soldiers stated that during the first few days, a Belgian shepherd appeared from the vegetation “he looked at us and wanted to say something to us, but he went back into the jungle”. Wilson, 6, has been in military tracking groups for 18 months.
