The government of Colombia and the ELN are delaying the announcement of a truce that is expected to be imminent

Colombian President Gustavo Petro Cristian B | EUROPAPRESS

Negotiating delegations requested one more day to “finalize the details”

Everything points to the fact that the government of Gustav Peter and the leaders are guerrillas National Liberation Army (ELN)the biggest of Colombia After the demobilization of the FARC in 2017, these days they will sign a Stop the fire within the framework of the third cycle of peace negotiations held in Havana.

The subversive group’s top commander, alias Antonio García, traveled there this week after the national executive requested that the arrest warrant against him be temporarily suspended. Petro planned to travel to Havana yesterday, but in the middle of the morning, a joint statement by the negotiating delegations of the Government and the ELN put his transfer on hold.

Through the message, both groups asked for “one more day” from Pedro and Antonio García to “finalize the details of the texts of the Cuban agreements and their protocols.”

In any case, Petro announced his imminent trip to Havana this Thursday to close the current round of negotiations.

The High Commissioner for Peace, Danilo Rueda, pointed out that the ceasefire will be of a national nature — it was speculated that it would only affect certain territories — and for six months.

Therefore, it will not be a definitive break, as many expect in Colombia, but it is a strong support for Peter’s project of complete peace after numerous failures and several days complicated by the scandal led by the former ambassador to Caracas, Armando Benedetti, who suggested the introduction of illicit money into Peter’s election campaign , who denounced the death threats the day before yesterday and who appeared in Istanbul yesterday to witness the Champions League final, after there was speculation that he would leave the country because of the warnings he received, something he himself denied.
