While some of the bodies, some of them badly disfigured, were identified by relatives, IANS and the Times of India reported, among others, an official and relatives. However, DNA testing was still pending. Authorities had uploaded lists and photos of the deceased to various government websites for identification, it said.
A passenger train collided with a stationary freight train at high speed in a rural area in Balasore district – over 200 kilometers southwest of Kolkata in Odisha state – last Friday evening. A second passenger train then crashed into the derailed wagons. The investigation into the cause of the accident continued.
