The conflict between the Russian army and the Wagner mercenary group under Yevgeny Prigozhin continues to escalate: a video is currently circulating of a Russian officer who appears to have been arrested by Wagner soldiers after allegedly opening fire on one of their vehicles. The mercenary group announced this on Sunday evening on its official Telegram channel, along with a confession video of the arrested.
PMC Wagner arrested and questioned no one other than the commander of the 72nd Brigade, Roman Venevitin. Wagner and the 72nd Brigade shared positions at Bakhmut.

In the video, the person depicted is Lieutenant Colonel Roman Wenewitin, commander of the 72nd Brigade. The man behind the camera asks him why he shot at her car. Wenewitin replies that they were personal motives. And he was drunk.
He is then asked why he and a group of soldiers earlier detained and disarmed a support group of Wagner mercenaries. Venewitin again replies that it was for personal reasons.
The man looks dejected. In the truest sense of the word, because his nose looks just broken. It is not clear from the video whether the injury is a result of the arrest or the “interrogation”. When asked what he now says about the incidents, he initially does not answer. Then he sighs deeply: “My fault.”
The incident the questioner asks him about was previously described by Wagner as follows: In May, Ministry of Defense troops laid mines on Wagner’s escape routes from Bachmut. When the mines were discovered leaving the town and removed by Wagner soldiers, a group of the army opened fire on them. The leader was “heavily drunk” and arrested. So this is Venevitin, as it is now known.
It is said that this is not the first time the lieutenant colonel has been involved in controversies. Wagner published a video on Telegram showing soldiers under Venevitin complaining about his leadership. The recording dates from May 24. The soldiers say they received “criminal orders” and that Venevitin sent them to the front without fire support. He also instructed her to threaten other fighters.
Meanwhile, the “Legion of Freedom of Russia” has also been called in: in a video message, speaker “Caesar” offers Wagner boss Prigozhin a prisoner exchange. Venevitin against captured Russian soldiers and border guards. The Lieutenant Colonel is unlikely to have anything to do with the Volunteer Corps, the exchange was probably just a courtesy.

It is not the first time that Wagner and the conventional Russian army have clashed. In the past, there have always been clashes between Prigozhin and Defense Minister Shoigu. The mercenary boss repeatedly accuses the army command of sabotaging him and putting up obstacles. A video of Prigozhin showing dead Wagner soldiers and personally attacking Shoigu received international attention.
