This move was consolidated in the heat of the World Cup in Qatar 2022 and the support of local fans for Argentina, but also with a strong geopolitical and commercial base from the strategic position that country occupies on the trade routes of Southeast Asia.

“Today we are fulfilling a moral duty, an ethical duty and a historical duty by reopening our embassy in Bangladesh. It was put into operation in 1974, when Argentina, ruled by General Juan Domingo Perón, recognized a brotherly nation like Bangladesh. Just a few years later, the Embassy was closed by a military dictatorship that wanted to erase the traces of numerous compatriots in our country.but also the seal of sister nations and the relations we have established up until then”, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs during the ceremony.

The chancellor is in the Asian country together with a delegation of national companies forming a trade mission with the aim of developing an intensive agenda of promoting exports and investments. This is the first visit of a South American foreign minister to this country, which is united with Argentina by half a century of diplomatic relations.

Cafiero also argued that “we must continue to build a relationship that unites us, that brings together two culturally different countries, geographically distant but with a unique feeling; what Bangladesh’s love for Argentina has shown is that even in this time of uncertainty, where the world is debating at war, we must strengthen the bond of the global southconsolidate that agenda and put people’s dignity at the center”.

He added that “in different international forums, countries like ours have to raise their voices much louder because sometimes they are not heard, that’s why we should always act cooperatively and together”.

Why trade with Bangladesh is crucial

Along with the reopening of the embassy and its consular section, the government explained that Argentina is seeking use the potential of bilateral relations, fundamentally in the commercial aspect that has a wide growth potential, seeking diversify trade and the national offer for export. Currently, Argentina’s sales to Bangladesh are concentrated in oils, grains, flour and soybean pellets. It also tries to promote cooperation in the field of sports, satellites, humanitarian aid and disaster management.

The MFA believes that the visit of the Argentine delegation represents a a significant fact for geopolitics Since Bangladesh is located at the crossroads of South Asia, East Asia and Southeast Asia, as the eighth most populous country in the world, with a market of more than 170 million inhabitants.

In 2022, the economic exchange with Bangladesh was 765 million USD, a surplus for Argentina. Argentina’s exports reached 742.9 million USD and imports from Bangladesh 22.1 million USD. In 2022, a trade surplus of 720.8 million dollars was recorded for Argentina.

For this reason, company executives traveled with Cafiera Marolio, Ecofactory, Vetanco, Lipotech, Luna de los Andes Sabias Semillas, Letis, Santo Pipó, National Institute of Yerba Mate (INYM), The Halal Catering Argentina HCB, Havanna, Arcor, Baltazar-Alfa Pampa, Suplefeed, Ronalb, Club Athletic River Salaries and Cargill.

After the ceremony, the Argentine Minister of Foreign Affairs and his partner AK Abdul Momen They met at the Diplomatic Academy, where they discussed various projects launched after this visit, which concern the increase and diversification of bilateral trade; On this occasion, they made progress on bilateral cooperation issues such as disaster management and humanitarian aid and space issues.

In addition, both ministers signed agreements on the exemption of visas for diplomatic and official passports and signed memoranda of understanding in matters of cooperation and trade exchange, diplomatic academies and football.
