Victoria Beckham’s makeup videos are poetic madness

It’s basically the same. Whether Rilke is talking about painting icons or Victoria is talking about her eye makeup. It’s pure poetry.

And as with any poem, depending on the level of lyrical conspiracy, there are one or more passages that you do not immediately understand. Sometimes you think, at least in view of the German language, that those question marks are even seen as a seal of quality: the more incomprehensible the verses, the greater the mystery, the genius, the genitals.

Now, of course, our Victoria does not write in German, but in her native language, the excellent Essex-Hertfordshire English, but that does not stop her from speaking just as mysteriously and inscrutably.

Or do you know what she means by editorial eyeshadow? What does she want to tell us when she talks about her transgressive experience with the cornflower blue above and below her left eye?

Should it be understood as a confident statement, as a kind of Köppelblau – translated into the Swiss media landscape – that allows them to look at the world with strong opinions?

Neither the Oxford Dictionary nor the Urban Dictionary recognizes the term ‘editorial’ outside a journalistic or publishing environment, where it is an adjective for the task of preparing written material for publication or presentation.

But she can hardly have meant that she simply painted her eye with blue paint.

Of all things, the American counterpart of the Oxford Dictionary, the Merriam-Webster Dictionary, ultimately knows what mystery Vicky’s ‘editorial’ hides:

It stands for something extravagant, they say, something high-end, something that should inspire instead of clumsily fulfilling a function or being super practical.
